Barbara Hepworth Gallery

This was the first time visiting this gallery and it didn’t disappoint.

There was a variety of different exhibitions in each section, I had the chance to see the works of Bill Brandt and Henry Moore. Their work was about the second world war with crossing paths about the mining industry. I found this work interesting as my Father used to be a miner, it was a lovely insight to the mining industry. It was lovely to see how both artists’ works blended together and seeing two different sides of art but all focusing on the one subject.

Seeing how the works were presented in the space and the use of space was very insightful; seeing this will help me when curating Pop-up in a few weeks.

The use of dark colour in one half of the exhibition gave an intensity to the work and felt more inmate and I had a better a connection to the pieces of work, then I did with the work in the white rooms. This is something I shall keep in mind when thinking about the presentation of my own work:

Will the surrounds affect the connection the viewer will have with my work?

Do I want to display my work on a white wall or coloured?

What type of lighting do I want on my work?

I will keep all these questions in mind when thinking about what will be the best way to present my work for the viewer to have that inmate connection I had when viewing Bill Brant and Henry Moore works.
